In Limine is an international artist residency taking place from 18–24 July 2026 in Monte Sant’Angelo, Puglia. Curated by Roberta Feoli De Lucia and Matteo Totaro, the residency invites a small, carefully selected group of artists to explore the idea of the threshold. It focuses on moments of transition, passage, and becoming, using sustainable printmaking, movable type, and book arts as both method and metaphor.
Set within the historic town of Monte Sant’Angelo, the residency is rooted in place. The conceptual framework draws inspiration from the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Tumba, whose Romanesque architecture, sculptural reliefs, and shifting light embody the notion of being “in between”. This sense of liminality extends beyond the studio, shaping how participants engage with history, landscape, and material.

Artists will work intensively with printmaking, movable type, and book arts, using recycled cardboard, Fabriano papers, and Akua inks. Studio time is combined with guided visits to key cultural and natural sites, including the Norman-Swabian-Angevin-Aragonese Castle, the Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel, and the Umbra Forest in Gargano National Park. These encounters are intended not as excursions but as integral parts of the creative process, offering historical, spiritual, and ecological contexts that inform the work.
The residency is hosted at Officina del Giorno Dopo, a print workshop dedicated to experimental and sustainable practices. Roberta Feoli De Lucia brings a practice grounded in environmentally conscious printmaking, while Matteo Totaro approaches the artist’s book as an encounter between word, form, and reader, treating movable type as a living and evolving craft. Together, they guide participants through research, technique, and conceptual development, encouraging work that is both materially sensitive and critically engaged.

Only three artists, emerging or established, will be selected. The residency fee is €1950, which includes accommodation, meals, materials, and participation in the final exhibition. The works produced during the residency will be presented publicly at Gioielli di Carta 2026, a respected festival dedicated to artist books and works on paper. Alongside individual editions, participants will also contribute to a collaborative folder produced during the week.
In Limine positions itself as more than a technical workshop. It is conceived as a fully immersive journey that connects making with place, history, and transformation. By situating contemporary print and book practices within the layered heritage of southern Italy, the residency offers artists the opportunity to develop work that resonates beyond the studio and engages deeply with the idea of transition itself.

The application deadline is 12 February 2026, and places are extremely limited.
