How will the course unfold?
The course is designed to guide you step by step through the linocut technique.
History and Tools
We’ll begin with an introduction to the technique, its relationship to woodcut, the materials used, and how to use them (linoleum, gouges, inks, rollers, paper).
From Drawing to Plate
We’ll design the subject, examining how it’s transferred to linoleum. You’ll work on negative/positive and understand the inverse logic of printing. And once the drawing is finished, you’ll begin engraving.
Inking and Printing
Now it’s time to print! We’ll see how linocut ink works and the tricks for best printing, both with and without a press! Using tools you already have at home!
Conclusion and Tips
We’ll discuss the care and conservation of plates, ideas for continuing to practice at home, and useful tools for further study.
