Jill & Gill: Boundless Radicals

posted by POP Members January 3, 2020

Jill & Gill is a multi-discipline studio based in Dublin, Ireland. The duo are recognised for their screen printed artworks using high-quality papers and a variety of inks, embellishments, and finishes. Their latest project, Boundless Radicals is a solo fine art exhibition that focuses on five inspiring, strong, passionate, unique and visionary women who are advocates across politics, climate, design, art, and sport: Mary Robinson, Yayoi Kasuma, Sinead Burke, Greta Thunberg and Katie Taylor. Each woman has not only brought about fundamental change, but has revolutionised their industry. These are women of action, their stories are unique, but one thing connects all five; “they all saw injustices and didn’t wait for someone else to do something about it, they are the driving force behind why you and I can aspire to be who we want to be”.

The exhibition, curated by Jill & Gill, was showcased at Ely Place, Dublin, in the beautiful vaulted rooms of communications agency Wilson Hartnell. As the building is listed, the duo built free-standing, timber-framed structures in which 16 prints hung with an additional 5 framed pieces displayed on easels.

This collection of prints; a showcase of 25 individual one-off pieces, has expanded organically across a multitude of mediums and hand embellishments over the course of the last six weeks, yet has been a conversation between Jill & Gill for many months. Each piece was developed from a hand-drawn pencil illustration into a unique creation of vibrancy, pattern, colour, detail and most importantly, in true Jill & Gill style.
