Hosted by Pen Gallery, in Poole’s (Dorset, UK) newly regenerated Kingland Crescent, Windrush Echoes features works by Arts University Bournemouth Alumni, graphic designer Kemba Earle and multimedia artist Daisy Jones.
The exhibition, which opened on the 22 June – National Windrush Day is, a visual exploration into experiences of the Windrush generation, highlighting the harsh realities of life as an immigrant of Caribbean descent in the UK. It focuses on the experiences as an immigrant and the mistreatment of the Windrush generation, which included wrongful deportation to the Caribbean.
The exhibition combines a series of giclee and Risograph printed posters that depict lived experiences of the Windrush Generation, with a living room installation that captures the attempt at fitting into a country that ultimately doesn’t see you as one of its own.
Pen Gallery in Poole is a non profit community art gallery and store, that hosts over 75 local artists work with monthly exhibitions. Funded by the community, Pen Gallery opened alongside 10 other independent businesses as part of a high street
regeneration scheme headed up by Legal & General.
Graphic Designer Kemba Earle says “As a third generation person with Caribbean heritage, the themes within this exhibition are personal to myself and I am proud to have the opportunity to raise awareness and celebrate the Windrush generation in the area where I attended university.”
Catch the exhibition until July 25th 2021 at Pen Gallery, 28 Kingland Crescent, Poole, BH15 1TB.
