Working from Barcelona, Natalia Ros is an illustrator and printmaker who lives for the motto, Print Is Not Dead. Her work focuses on blockprinting, with an emphasis on its handprinted nature.
She has discovered that one of her favourite processes is printing on textiles with linoleum. After a long period of research, and a lot of trial and error, Natalia found the perfect way to print on cotton t-shirts with an optimal result. She tells us; “I love the whole process of creation and production, from start to finish. From creating the artwork and thinking about the design, the linoleum sizing, the choice of t-shirts, the printing, the labelling (I love designing and preparing the labels for each t-shirt!) and the packaging. It’s a super neat product that works really well and people love it.”
The process of the tee’s creation is fairly long and slow. Once the linoleum is hand-printed, heat must be applied and allowed to dry for the ink to set well and for safety, Natalia then irons one at a time before shipping.
In addition, she works in a pre-sale format. This means that she doesn’t make extra t-shirts, which is a more sustainable and exclusive process. “It also teaches the customer not to want things immediately and to understand that it is a product that is produced slowly and consciously,” says the printmaker.
So far, Natalia has released models such as PRINT IS NOT DEAD, SUPPORT ARTISTS, PRINT OR DIE, WHALE SHARKS, and DARUMA/GO FOR IT BUT TAKE IT EASY.
Currently, she is working on a new design, TODO PASA, which will be released very soon.
