As The Book Photographer, Justina spends her days capturing books and working with inspiring book producers: artists, designers, and publishers. She states; “Books are not just objects; they are experiences. And as much as I love photographing them, I wanted to create something that goes beyond the lens—something that bookmakers and lovers could wear, something that sparks a smile or conversations about the books.” This led her to collaborate with Dutch graphic designer, illustrator, and lettering artist Thom Niessink, on a statement t-shirt. Hand-printed by MAIAMI Print Studio, and fuelled by a shared love for print, this project offers a statement piece for a book lover’s wardrobe.

Thom Niessink is a Dutch graphic designer specialising in lettering, type design, and illustration. Since graduating from Mediacollege Amsterdam in 2013, he has worked across various agencies, refining his craft and developing a signature style rooted in typography. Over the years, he has honed his passion for custom lettering, drawing inspiration from vintage magazines, signage, and postcards from the 1950s and 60s.
Despite this vintage influence, Thom’s work is almost entirely digital. His iPad serves as a modern-day sketchbook, where he blends retro and contemporary letterforms, layered with subtle paper textures and carefully curated color palettes. The result? A typographic rhythm that feels nostalgic yet refreshingly modern—perfect for a t-shirt celebrating book culture.
Located in the heart of Amsterdam, MAIAMI Print Studio is a small, independent print workshop specialising in analogue printing techniques. From silkscreen printing to Risograph, the studio is a hub for artists and designers who want to bring their work to life through traditional printmaking methods. Each t-shirt is hand-printed, ensuring that every piece carries a unique, artisanal quality.

The phrase “My Books Make This T-Shirt Jealous!”, emblazoned on the tee, is a playful tribute to bookmakers and lovers everywhere. It’s a reminder that, while we love good design and great t-shirts, books will always hold a special place in our hearts. As artists, designers, and book enthusiasts, we know that the tactile experience of a beautifully made book can never be replaced—just like a screen-printed t-shirt has a softness and nuance that digital prints just can’t achieve. This collaboration is a celebration of print culture, typography, and books in general.
The t-shirts are printed on Stanley/Stella organic cotton; a brand known for its sustainable approach to fashion. The colour palette is carefully selected to complement the design, with shades that feel both timeless and fresh: Blue Soul, Cotton Pink, Fresh Peach, Lavender, Aloe, Worker Blue, and Ochre.

Whether you’re a book lover, a typography enthusiast, or simply appreciate a well-designed, sustainably made t-shirt, don’t miss out on this limited edition tee! Pre-orders are open now! Email Justina directly to claim yours before they sell out: info@thebookphotographer.com.
