Tom Whitehead is a screenprinter who designs and prints for his own T-shirt label; Ed & Flo. Having risen through the ranks at VisibleArt Screenprinters to become Production Manager, Tom takes on bespoke design commissions for a wide range of clientele. He is also co-director and founder of an independent, community-based print studio called The Printhaus (South Wales, Cardiff).
Tom’s passion for screen printing was initiated when he bought a Prototype 21 T-shirt from a skate store in Leeds, and instantly fell in love with the cleanness of the design and the way it was printed. Since then, Tom has immersed himself in the study of Graphic Communication, hand-cut stencils and lots of pen and ink drawings. Tom’s style hasn’t changed that much since he discovered the t-shirt, as he remains ever faithful to his light-box, pens and paper and the clean lines produced from vector-based graphics.
His latest work, ‘Unicorn’, has been produced as both a T-shirt and Risograph print. This deceptive name is typical of Tom’s style; seemingly innocent on the surface, but after a closer look you can see glimmers of his dark sense of humour.
