Elsa Poux | Mapoésie

posted by Hannah Dawson February 2, 2015

Elsa Poux graduated from the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris and has since submerged herself in pattern design, transforming the finest of fabrics into collisions of colour, shape and narratives. Elsa is the founder and creator of Paris based fashion company Mapoésie, which originates from a willingness to mix codes, modify fabrics and weave language/poetry into printed forms. All of the designs are delicately hand screen printed onto the fabrics, with the colours and layers composed gently to achieve a beautiful result.

Elsa has been working at Mapoésie alone and also occasionally in collaboration with a group of invited artists since 2010. Inspired by ethnic cultures and crafting know-how, she manipulates patterns and colours that she has taken from here and there; from the robe of an African king, Kuba, or from the map of the Mayan sky, interpreting and exhausting them down to the last thread resulting in designs that reference ancient traditions while remaining desirable for todays consumer. More recently, Mapoésie has even extended into creating stationery products.
