Riso-printed Calendar 2026 by Hannah Kansy

posted by POP Members January 11, 2026

For her 2026 Riso-printed calendar, Netherlands based graphic designer and illustrator Hannah Kansy brings together twelve original illustrations that invite the viewer to wander through unknown landscapes. Each month presents a new scene, a quiet world shaped by abstraction, atmosphere and a sense of slow discovery. The work reflects her interest in the meditative qualities of printmaking and the inner spaces people retreat to when the external world becomes too loud.

“There’s a quiet calm in diving into unreal places and letting the mind wander while drawing,” Kansy says. “It feels like a small escape from the world and its chaos, a gentle refuge when everything else becomes too much.”

This sense of refuge forms the emotional core of the calendar. The illustrations encourage the viewer to pause, notice and reflect. They capture the often overlooked moments that sit between activities and emotions, the small pockets of time when the mind drifts elsewhere. Some of the imagery responds to the idea that not everyone experiences the world at the same pace. For many people who live with chronic illness, disability or long term fatigue conditions, the world can feel altered, slower, or fragmented. The calendar includes subtle acknowledgements of these shifts, offering space for gentleness and quiet attention.

A significant part of the project is its charitable intention. Ten percent of all sales are donated to an organisation dedicated to advancing awareness, research and care for ME/CFS and Long Covid. Kansy notes that this contribution is small but important, especially as public attention has moved away from the pandemic, while millions continue to experience long term health effects.

ME/CFS, or myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, is a severe neuroimmunological disease that can follow viral infections such as Covid 19. It is characterised by profound exhaustion, neurocognitive difficulties and immunological dysfunction. Many patients are housebound or bedridden, and currently there is no diagnostic test or cure. Although recognised by the World Health Organisation since 1969, it remains dramatically under researched. Over 650,000 people in Germany and an estimated 17 to 24 million worldwide live with ME/CFS. The calendar therefore serves not only as a printed object but also as a small act of visibility and care for those affected.

The calendar is printed in seven Riso colours on Munken Polar Rough 170 gsm paper and produced by DeKijm and Zonen. Risography is central to Kansy’s practice. She is drawn to its texture, unpredictability and layered colour possibilities. The method aligns with her interest in hand crafted processes, imperfections and the expressive potential of limited palettes. Over the past two years she has focused on screen printing and risograph illustration, often exploring the boundary between natural forms and their abstraction.

Working from her studio in the Netherlands, Kansy balances her practice as a designer, educator and printmaking enthusiast. Her work often drifts between dreamlike landscapes and elemental shapes, offering viewers an imaginative environment to rest within. The 2026 calendar brings these themes together in a format that can be lived with throughout the year.
