Carla Cabras is an Italian graphic designer based in Sardinia. Fascinated by art and design from a young age, Carla wished to delve deeper into this world, first studying graphic design, photography, and art during her adolescence, and then at university, where she attended the academy of fine arts and the “New Technologies of Art” course.

After receiving her degree, Carla started her career as a freelancer, a decision dictated by the fact that in a studio she would have felt “limited in terms of style and art”. Her style implements a combination of vintage and modern aesthetics. Using minimal lines and retro fonts, and together with her choice of colours, Carla successfully blends the two, creating an attractive and unique product.

Leafing through old books and observing covers of unknown vinyls found in flea markets is Carla’s main source of inspiration for her designs. She then researches the small, apparently harmless details, and creates a new design around them. The next step in her creative process involves sketches on paper with a pencil, because “the best ideas are immediately seen on paper”. All of this is then digitally ported to a PC using the adobe suite. However, Carla does not limit herself to digital ways of working, as she also explores different ways of making art, which inlcudes printing, cutting, and then digitizing again, “to find that lived-in effect”.

She concludes; “I think the best way to create a better future is to focus on the present doing what you love to do. But I can’t hide the fact that one of my dreams is to open an all-women Creative Studio.”
