Emma Hursey is a graphic designer producing bespoke visual communications for various brands, art organisations and social causes. She has developed creative products for a diverse range of design, branding and campaign projects in a variety of mediums including packaging, posters, books, magazines, brochures and stationery. Emma has also worked on spatial designs for window displays, exhibitions, pop-up stores and painted murals.
From conception to conclusion, Emma uses her finely-tuned skills in design thinking, visual language, and print production to do what’s right for each client. Her interest lies in anthropomorphous designs; in design that has character. In her personal work this passion translates into figures, and although they can be abstract, Emma adds a human touch to her illustrations, posters and editorial designs. In her professional work, this is interpreted through her building of brand identities which have character and can grow and adapt with the business. “No brand is static, and I aim to build tight identities with a smidgen of versatility to make room for the humans who will interact with the identity” explains the designer.
A love of vibrant colours, humour and bold typography seeps into her designs. Emma has brought her spirited aesthetic to brands big and small, including Studio Olafur Eliasson’s Little Sun, V&A Museum, B Corporation, the BFI and Umbrella Studios. Utilising her interest in sociology and politics, Emma designs in order to raise awareness of the matters close to her heart. This is evident in her work with Little Sun, UNHCR and B Corporation, through to her exhibitions at the V&A Late, The Wømb Symposium and 48h Neukölln.
Working as an independent freelance designer, collaborating and forming teams for each individual project, Emma is also a member of The Boys Club: a collective of six independent designers and illustrators. The collective work alongside one another and occasionally together from their studio in Neukölln, Berlin. She’s always happy to meet people for new projects, commissions and collaborations.
