Working across a range of creative disciplines is Scottish born graphic designer Craig Black. His most recent project is an exciting collaboration between himself and Avondale Type Co’s second annual Artist Series, working together to create four unique pieces inspired by one of their typefaces, ATC Overlook. Not only is Black a graphic designer, but a lettering artist, typographer, motion designer, and many other titles. Having spent the first few years of his career in leading design agencies gaining experience in print to motion and everything in-between, he now currently runs his own design studio in Glasgow and London.
Known for his original and innovative typographic illustrations, visual identities, packaging, installations and murals. His strengths lie in his ability to cross disciplines without the effects of a fixed personal style. This versatility has meant hes been lucky enough to work on a varied mix of projects with local and international clients of all business backgrounds.
In this current project Black took inspiration from the font’s bold and powerful details, setting out to design a look that carried its sleek qualities further, by combining the use of subtle gradient textures and sharp edges. Black believes in creating engaging, modern and precise visuals whilst maintaining originality in all of his work.
