Taking place on the 18th and 19th November 2020, the eighth London edition of magCulture Live sees the event shift online. The two-day event special sees magazine goodness from some of the best magazine makers working today. The event has been split into two Zoom sessions, each with its own theme and an overall mood of celebration. As part of the event, international speakers will share inspiration across writing, design, illustration, typography and photography.
The first session on the 18th November centres on the theme of ‘Activism’; highlighting the power of magazines as platforms for change, from both historical and contemporary standpoints. Day one’s speakers include; Alice Grandoit (Co-founder, DEEM JOURNAL). Steven Heller (Design critic and author), Karl Henkell (Founder, RECORD CULTURE), Sachini Imbuldeniya (Founder, Studio Pi), Maya Moumne (Co-founder, JOURNAL SAFAR), Rick Poynor (Author of David King: Designer, Activist, Visual Historian) and Terri White (Editor-in-chief, EMPIRE).
The second session on 19th November has the theme of ‘Analogue’ as its focus; reminding us that there’s more to magazine-making than computers, and asking questions such as ‘How can editors and art directors maintain a human touch’? Day two will see talks from Theseus Chan (Creative director, WERK), Sarah de Mavaleix, Sofia Nebiolo and Haydée Touitou (Editors, THE SKIRT CHRONICLES), Oliver Munday (Creative director, THE ATLANTIC), Rose Nordin (Co-founder and graphic designer, OOMK & Rabbits Road Press), Chloe Scheffe (Art director, HERE), Jack Self (Editor-in-chief, REAL REVIEW) and Kurt Woerpel (Art director, INTERVIEW).
Join the sessions to be reminded of the creative power of great magazines. The events take place from 4-7pm GMT online. Ticket prices are £60 per session or £90 for both (£45 and £60 for students), available via Eventbrite.
