Theo Wang is the face behind Bristol-based Print & Ephemera, a letterpress studio offering typographic design, signwriting, restoration, and assorted trades. Predominantly, Theo designs and makes his own range of limited edition prints, notebooks, greetings cards, stationery, and keepsakes, with the odd letterpress commission or graphic design job also taken on. One of Theo’s most recent projects as part of Print & Ephemera is one that is particularly close to his heart. He tells us; “In the wake of the recent far-right rioting in Bristol, and across the country, I wanted to do something positive to celebrate the fantastic response by so many people who stood up to the small, hate-fuelled mob in order to defend those in need.”
The letterpress printed poster includes the words that were heard being chanted by the group defending the Mercure Hotel, just 10 minutes from the Print & Ephemera studio. These words “struck such a chord” with the printmaker, inspiring him to do something helpful with them. Thus, he went to his presses!
To make an impact as quickly as possible, Theo produced the print in a quick run; 1 colour, A4, in an edition of 50. The pieces are available online for just £18, with all the proceeds donated to SARI – Stand Against Racism & Inequality. SARI is a Bristol-based charity supporting victims of hate within Bristol’s community. They also work with children, young people, and schools to support pupils facing racist and other hate incidents, as well as providing anti-hate, equality, diversity and inclusion, and cultural awareness training.
Head over to the Go Fund Me Fundraiser, donate what you like, and all donations over £18 will receive a print!
