Smrtna Rosa Prints was founded by Sabina; a self taught printmaker from Croatia, currently based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Their main medium of choice is linocut, although they also work with woodcut and digital illustration.
Sabina’s works are mostly inspired by medieval illustrations, frescoes, the occult, religious iconography, tattoo art, and music. Aside from their work as a printmaker, Sabina is a registered nurse working with people with disabilities, something which they say they are “very passionate about”.
When creating their prints, Sabina uses Japanese carving knives, particularly loving the Sankaku To woodcut knife and Sakura carving knives because of their straight handles. Although they do have a Sizzix press at home, Sabina uses a wooden spoon most of the time, and inks up using the trusty Speedball Art Professional for paper, and Kreul Javana for fabric printing.
Looking to the future, Sabina hopes to create a collection of self-sewn simple garments that they can print on. They conclude; “I have so many ideas and I am really excited about going in different printmaking directions”.
