Anna Wilson is a multidisciplinary printmaker who uses techniques including monoprint, etching, collagraph, and drypoint. She graduated from University in 2015 with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art where she started developing her printmaking practice. With no previous printmaking experience, Anna began by learning the etching technique and predominantly used this throughout her three years of study.
Her work is heavily inspired by literature, be that books, poetry, or letters. During her time at university, a body of work was created surrounding “the filth of the night”; a quote found spray painted on the side of a derelict building. Using this as a base for her work, Anna began collecting misplaced objects found on the street and used them to create her abstract prints as a way of bringing new life to abandoned and disregarded items.
Following her graduation, Anna moved back to North Wales where she began a printmaking course at The Regional Print Centre and subsequently became a member at the studio. It was here that she learnt new processes and techniques, and now mainly works using drypoint or monoprint.
To Whom it May Concern is a new, ongoing series of drypoint prints based on hand written letters from various individuals throughout Anna’s life. “I found it interesting that many of these letters came from people who are no longer in my life; once close enough to capture their deepest thoughts and feelings in a letter, to strangers within a relatively short space of time. Although on one hand the prints created from these letters are a reminder that everything in life is temporary, I like to think that they also add a sense of permanency to past encounters; even though the people themselves may no longer be in my life, the memories and feelings we shared will live on through my art work.”
