Lene Bladbjerg is a Danish graphic artist living and working in South East London. Her work continues to take inspiration from her background in graphic design (Lene graduated from London College of Printing in 2000 with a 1:1 BA(Hons) in Graphic and Media Design) as she implements a lot of type within her work. Photography is also a key source of inspiration, as well as humour, which are juxtaposed with a very minimalistic style which is likely inspired by her Scandinavian upbringing.
Lene works from two different studios; her main one is based in Crystal Palace where she paints and creates pictures using found objects, often blades, and approximately once a week she also goes to Bainbridge Print Studios, where she hand-pulls screenprints.
Constantly influenced by the things around her, Lene keeps a sketchbook where she regularly draws or writes down ideas. She also always has a camera handy, ready to take photographs when inspiration strikes which she will later incorporate into her artworks. For example, whilst travelling to the US to exhibit at The Other Art Fair, Lene took lots of photos that have gone on to form the basis of some of her screenprints. “I love combining my love for travelling with my work,” comments the printmaker.
Lene is currently working on some new screenprints for her upcoming shows at The Other Art Fair in London and LA this spring. Keep your eyes peeled!
