Roderick van Hasselt started screen printing in 2020, after he became a member of Mesh Print Club in Rotterdam. “For me screen printing began as a way to add a new creative layer to my photo prints” says Roderick. His trademark style incorporates bright, neon inks, and emphasises the textures and layering of colours that are uniquely created through the technique of screen printing.
Roderick has been taking photographs since he was 16, and, in the past, has worked with analogue black and white photography printing; an artisan process that he really enjoyed. As a former seafarer who presently works as a Marine Pilot at the Port of Rotterdam, his prints are mostly based on photographs taken during his career at sea.
Aside from his screen prints based on his own photographic archive of his seafaring days, Roderick has also worked on two commissioned projects. Presently he is creating an ever-evolving ‘line rastered’ TV still series, featuring images from TV shows such as Killing Eve and Harley Quinn.
