Visual artist Katrina Russell-Adams has collaborated with new homeware brand, Venus & the Cat, on a series of indoor plant pots. Venus & the Cat create bespoke premium homeware from fine bone china, and have collaborated with some of the British industry’s finest ceramic craftsmen, situated in the heart of the Potteries. They decorate their indoor pots and tall vases in meticulous silkscreen with unique commissions from standout artists from the UK’s street art scene.
Katrina’s design for Venus & the Cat was created from a paper stencil silkscreen print that Duchess China 1888 have recreated on to a transfer using their silkscreen printing methods. In 133 years of honing their print processes, the design was the most complex and extensive group of colours that they have ever had to replicate on to china.
Venus & the Car’s ethos is sustainable luxury: beautiful, functional objects, sustainably made in a process that employs local materials, talent and economy. They’re all about slow-made craftmanship: each piece of Venus & the Cat homeware passes through as many as twenty pairs of skilled hands as it’s created. With a focus on homegrown talent, nothing is imported and there is no transatlantic carbon footprint nor unethical supply chain. The fine bone china is created in the heart of the potteries and the striking art comes from brilliant homegrown street-art talent.
The pots go on general sale from 1st November, but are now available to pre-order as part of their exclusive limited first edition. As part of this first edition release there will be only 50 vases and pots of each work made, each numbered uniquely on its base from 1-50 signifying its exclusivity, accompanied by an A5 card of its original artwork signed and numbered by the artist. If the Limited First Edition opportunity is missed, then people will have the opportunity to order from the non-Limited Second Edition.
