Created in 1966 by modernist designer Massimo Vignelli, The Stendig Calendar was named after the company that commissioned it. The calendar was an instant hit, entering into the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. To date, it remains the only calendar on display there.
Vignelli’s design is simple yet bold, using the iconic typeface Helvetica on large, 3ft x 4ft sheets of high quality, 160gsm paper. The sheets are detachable, designed to be removed with each passing month and alternate between black and white. The previous months’ sheets are easily recyclable and reusable as they make excellent wrapping paper.
An Italian modernist, designer Vignelli worked on a wide range of projects from branding and advertising to furniture design and typography. He believed in the radical simplicity of design, and is most recognisable for his iconic 1970s New York Subway map and signage.
The calendars are produced in limited quantities at the original print site in Nashville, Tennessee (USA), where the very first calendar was printed. Grab your 2020 calendar below whilst you still can.
