Not RIP is an experimental project that aims to encourage people to express their emotions and promote forgiveness. Created by Midnight Project, a NYC-based studio founded by Weiyun Chen and Supatida, the project consists of 13 distinct charms that symbolise various emotions, including anger, sadness, and depression.
“Cursing someone with unique charm as a means of expressing emotions can provide a profound emotional release while also embarking on a creative and constructive journey of self-discovery,” say the creators. Their goal is to assist individuals in releasing their inner tension and promote forgiveness towards themselves and others who may have caused them pain or suffering. They comment; “By forgiving, people can confront negative emotions and move forward with renewed peace and understanding”.
To bring their vision to life, the studio utilised lucky charms with completely opposing methodologies to create the design. Employing the technique of pixel art, they pieced together fragments of emotional memory, pixel by pixel, to demonstrate their interpretation. They state; “Our beliefs and cultural background were reflected in the way we depicted each charm. We combined three different languages and typography characteristics to convey our message in a unique and culturally significant way.”
Whether you are seeking to overcome past hurts or simply looking to improve your emotional well-being, the Not RIP project provides an empowering opportunity to facilitate healing and personal growth.
