The Netherlands-based screen printing studio, Real Friends, have recently released two new prints that combine collage with fictional typography, taking inspiration from dystopian imagery and stories.
The two new artworks reflect Jeroen Klootsema’s (one half of Real Friends’ founding duo) latest obsession with making collages with enhanced textures. The prints illustrate his interest in “the meaning we give to objects and when objects become symbols”. Whilst creating, Jeroen was inspired by the aesthetics of decay and destruction, which he mixed with sci-fi and post-apocalyptic flavours.
Both pieces were printed on 300 gr. paper at their screen printing studio in Groningen. Each print was constructed from separate images which Jeroen layered into one large composition. “I try to react on the shapes that come to life and try to see the next best step,” says the printmaker. In one of the posters Jeroen has made the images come together with the use of outlined shapes, and with the other he has mixed this with sci-fi typography.
Real Friends are currently working on more prints, and collaborating with musicians releasing new album cover designs and merch. Watch this space for more!
