The Counter Press is a London-based letterpress studio and workshop run by graphic designers David Marshall and Elizabeth Ellis. Located in the East End in an old chocolate factory, the duo works as full-time designers and part-time non-commercial printmakers, printing all types of work using only traditional wood and movable type, all designed, type set and skilfully printed by hand.
Apart from spending all day designing on Macs, the press is considered to be an escape from their dreary workdays. They do not print from digital artwork and have a strong belief that the beauty of letterpress is to manually design and create each print. They have an excellent selection of quality papers in order to fit all kinds of projects, putting their main focus on quality rather than quantity. Most of their work is self-directed, ranging from business cards, postcards, posters, to book covers. They also welcome commissioned projects, so if you are looking to make limited edition art prints, then The Counter Press will certainly prove a perfect place for you.
