The Gutter Press was established by Sarah Bissell at the end of 2016 in Edinburgh, after she purchased a risograph printer. She graduated from DJCAD in 2010 with a BA Hons in Illustration and quickly got a full time job as a screen printer for a production company in her hometown, Dundee.
After 4 years Sarah got itchy feet and moved to Edinburgh to study for an MA in illustration at Edinburgh College of Art. Having a taste for production she decided to start her own production company after she graduated. Simultaneously, she also undertook a residency at the ECA and began teaching workshops whilst she was there.
Sarah particularly loves risograph because of it’s capability for a great mix of printmaking, colour and fast paced creativity. With an ethos for recycling and minimising environmental impact, The Gutter Press only use environmentally friendly ink and consumables, recycled paper and aim keep any waste to a minimum.
She now teaches various workshops, most recently at the Royal College of Art, and has designed for various publications with lots of new and exciting things planned for the future.
