Imagine a summer immersed in the art of printmaking, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, ancient history, and the warmth of Italian hospitality. The Scazzamuridd Artist Residency, from July 19-25, 2025, invites artists from around the world to experience a unique, hands-on journey into sustainable printmaking and traditional movable type techniques, all while exploring the rich cultural heritage of Puglia.
Led by Masters Roberta Feoli and Matteo Totaro, guests of the small printing house Officina del Giorno Dopo, this residency is an unparalleled opportunity to refine your craft under the guidance of two acclaimed printmakers. Their expertise, passion for preserving traditional techniques, and innovative approach to sustainable printmaking will inspire you to push the boundaries of your artistic practice.
Nestled in the historic town of Monte Sant’Angelo, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the residency offers more than just artistic growth. Participants can immerse themselves in the captivating folklore of Gargano, drawing inspiration from the legendary Scazzamuridd, a playful, mischievous spirit said to inhabit local homes. The enchanting setting, with its medieval castles, sacred sites, and lush forests, provides endless creative fuel for attendees’ work.
However, this experience isn’t just about printmaking—it’s about connection. Throughout the week, you’ll collaborate with like-minded international artists, exchanging ideas, techniques, and perspectives. Whether you’re an experienced printmaker or an emerging artist eager to explore new techniques, this is your chance to be part of a creative community that values both tradition and innovation.
The days will be filled with dynamic work, creative exploration, and cultural immersion. From experimenting with recycled cardboard matrices and traditional tirabozze presses, to printing stunning editions and learning how to craft a cohesive print folder, every session is designed to enrich your practice.
Beyond the studio, residents will embark on guided excursions through Monte Sant’Angelo’s historic centre, visiting landmarks such as the Norman-Swabian-Angioinian-Aragonese Castle and the mystical Sanctuary of San Michele. An afternoon trip to the Umbra Forest will allow you to breathe in nature’s inspiration before returning to the press. Evenings will be yours to enjoy local cuisine, explore nearby towns, or simply relax by the pool with your fellow artists. On the final night, you’ll celebrate your work with a collective critique, concluding the residency with a magical evening of art, conversation, and the soothing sounds of Tibetan bells by the pool.
To maintain an intimate and high-quality learning environment, participation in this residency is limited and is a paid experience. This ensures access to top-tier materials and comfortable accommodations. Artists will stay in a B&B with daily Italian breakfast and select meals included. The residency fee covers workshops and printing materials, allowing you to focus fully on your creative process.
