This exhibition came about because we wanted to shine a light on some of the brilliant illustrators who are part of Illustrators Ireland. Having decided we needed some sort of theme, we picked the title ‘Good News’ partly as a nod to the tabloid – sized, newsprint format of this poster book, but also in an attempt to put something positive out there. We acknowledge that there is a lot wrong in the world today, the news is full of horrible stories of the worst of humanity, newspapers and politicians deal in fear and doom. This can often leave us feeling powerless and apathetic (this is what they want!) In order to inspire people to stand up and make a difference in this world we also need to celebrate the good things. Whether that’s a positive, global news story or something much more personal, something that makes you happy or gives you a moment of joy. Or even just the act of making some art for no good reason at all.
