Singapore-based visual artists and friends XL and Donson have joined forces, regularly collaborating together under the name of FAKEDCANDID. The duo value the balance between providing positive aesthetic experiences and sustaining their significance. Although they come from different design based backgrounds they are able to combine their specialist skills and produce well considered, concept driven designs which are both thought provoking and light hearted.
With their work leaning predominantly towards art direction, conceptual and editorial fields, the pairs most recent project titled Paint Job encapsulates all areas of their interests. Commissioned by clothing design company Somewhere Nowhere to design editorial for their SS15 collection of handmade and customised designs, FAKEDCANDID have created an appealing ‘series of fashion-fused still-life images that illustrates the cynical side of a painters job. The story is told in a surreal tone, through the peculiar tools and arrangement of objects to reveal just a pinch of the painters existence. Within the unsuspecting bright colours lies the depictions of the painter being suffocated, squashed, knocked down and wounded -willingly or not.’
