Noa Raviv: 3D Printed Hard Copy Collection

Distortion of digital drawings and classical Greek sculpture are the two contrasting elements used to inform Israeli fashion designer Noa Raviv’s remarkable Hard Copy collection.

Using Stratasys’ Objet500 Connex3 multi-material 3-D printing technology, Noa Raviv has achieved two captivating creations formed from multiple ribbed layers of polymer. The genius embedded within both concept and construction embodies the innovation of fashion and 3D printing in regards to the evolution of technology ever informing the future of design. The Greek sculptural element is beautifully infused to inform the asymmetrical silhouettes carefully considered and technically constructed, referencing the complex detail, curved contours and a question of perception in regards to the hard touch of the sculpture contrasting the soft and free flowing illusion of the marble.

In regards to the digital influence, the very process of creation informed the finalised designs, injecting the tension of the 2D and 3D unfolding while working with the software. The grid pattern prompts an optical illusion while stretched around the garment, complimented by the harsh black outlines and orange accents, which decorate the garments, referencing the selection tools within the modelling software.

Noa Raviv was awarded Fashion Designer of the Year at the 3D Printshow in 2014 and it is clear to see why. Her ingenious creations are set to showcase within The Met’s prestigious exhibition Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology opening in May 2016.
