Library of Shapes, Texts and Structures Exhibition

This is an official invite to the upcoming Library of Shapes, Texts and Structures Exhibition featuring the experimental typographic works of Andrea Tinnes, Professor of Typography at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. To open the new A-Z Gallery space in Berlin starting from the 11th April 2019, Andrea presents her latest graphic design project. This fresh creative space has a mission of expanding the territory of graphic design by rethinking its limits and challenging traditional perceptions, starting with Andrea’s visual research project and personal archive of graphic elements.

The title is essentially the program. ‘Library’ encompasses sustained efforts of systematic collecting, note-taking, documenting, selecting, registering, archiving, manipulating, sorting and cataloguing of a body of diverse visual, textual and linguistic material. The library’s ‘Shapes’ section consists of two comprehensive typographic systems: The Affiche Collection and Allgemein Grotesk both of which are typefaces that combine different letterforms in their character sets. Both include numerous forms and symbols, from abstract-geometric to figurative illustrative to organic-distorted.

The ‘Structures’ section contains a variety of analogue and digital textures, as well as photographic imagery of vernacular typography. And finally, ‘Texts’ rounds up this visual collection nicely consisting of recorded extracts of every day reading such as newspapers, excerpts, sorted by date, magazines, books and social media posts.
