Based in Glasgow, Scotland, Strange Meadows, aka Megan Tailford, is a linocut artist producing prints from a corner of her spare room.
Megan has always been creative, but decided to pursue an academic route after Secondary School, studying Neuroscience. However, throughout her studies she constantly dabbled in painting, sculpting, and, more recently, has discovered the wonderful world of linocut. She taught herself the technique through lots of experimentation, and watching other printmakers on YouTube and Instagram.

Inspiration for her work comes from a wide range of sources; “Nature, including animals and plants, weird, esoteric mythology and fables, animation including cartoons and anime, the amazing shapes and sizes the human body comes in, and the queer community I’m a part of”.

Megan prints in her spare time in the evening and at the weekends as an escape from her very analytical day-job in costing. “I love researching reference images for new projects, or simply getting a burst of inspiration to sketch up a strange, abstract piece” says the printmaker.
Currently, she works exclusively with linocut, mainly using grey battleship lino, Pfiel, and Flexcut tools (the micro palm set), and Cranfield colour inks. Megan prints everything by hand, but is hoping to get hold of a printing press this year, with the aim to tackle pieces bigger than A4, which at the moment she can’t face hand burnishing. Once studios open back up, we is also planning on picking up screen printing, with a bunch of designs already planned out in her sketchbook.
