Close Your Eyes and Come With Me is a chapbook collaboration between illustrator BlockForest and award winning novelist Kirsty Logan (Things We Say In The Dark and the upcoming Now She Is Witch). It is a collection of six spooky short stories, inspired by the myths of the British Isles, but with a queer twist.
Featuring a ghostly tale from a Glaswegian bathroom, a blue faced baby eating witch, and the mystery of Devon’s Devils Footprints, these stories aim to delight and terrify in equal measure. Each story is brought to life by Blockforest using a mix of linocut printmaking techniques and digital illustration, in his typical creepy, yet personable style, complimenting Kirsty’s evocative and vivid approach to writing. As queer creators, they reimagined these timeless human tales to come from the perspective of LGBTQIA+ characters, while also giving them a more modern setting to connet better with the reader.
With so much folklore to choose from, the collaboration saw Kirsty and Mike challenge each other, with an illustration being created first that would then lead to a story, and vice versa. The result being a book that is a complete blend of their imaginings that plays to their individual strengths.
A perfect read for the spookiest of seasons, Halloween, this chapbook is available now on Blockforest’s shop.
