The Humber Printmaker is Lucy; a printmaker, artist, and teacher of Art & Design with a passion for preserving traditional printmaking processes. Based in Lincolnshire, she started her small business back in 2020 with a focus on creating letterpress prints inspired by the area she calls home, combining local landmarks with an eclectic mix of words. Lucy continues to experiment with different techniques and processes, applying them to the prints and printed goods she creates. Fascinated by the history and social context of letterpress, she is also an avid collector of vintage presses and type.
After graduating from Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University in1998, Lucy went on to work in the visual and performing arts sector and business supply for a major high street retailer. She then went back to the world of education and studied for Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Brighton University, which led to 16 years teaching Art and Design at Secondary school.
Lucy put her teaching career on hold in 2019 to focus on taking care of her family and her printmaking practice. However, she is still dedicated to teaching and sharing her printmaking skills, delivering workshops and drop-ins. She also co-manages a social enterprise company which delivers print-based community arts projects within North and North East Lincolnshire to adults and children, with a focus on sustainable, collective working.
Lucy works from her studio at The Ropewalk, Barton Upon Humber, where she enjoys being part of the vibrant and varied local creative community. Ultimately, she is driven by the anticipation of joy printmaking brings, whether it’s creating her own prints or assisting others with theirs.
