Art of the Mimeograph is a crowdfunding project by People of Print member Tomoko Kanzaki. The mimeograph is a duplicator machine that works by producing copies from a stencil. Today, the mimeograph has been superseded by the photocopier, and its artistic accomplishment is often forgotten. Tomoko’s publication aims to bring the mimeograph back to the forefront, and will reconsider the machine based on contributions and information collected about the mimeograph version of art from intellectuals across Japan and overseas.
The book will feature essays by Hisami Ueno (MOMA Wakayama, Japan) and John Z. Komurki (RISOMANIA). Tomoko will also report on mimeograph art with discussions with Shoko Shimura, a researcher of mimeograph, and Tetsuya Noda, a printmaking artist. Artworks included in the publication are mainly selected from Tomoko’s own collection and archive.
The crowdfunding campaign will run until 30/08/2019.

The book will be printed in English and Japanese and offset printed CMYK. If crowdfunding is successful the book will Launch in Nov. 2019.
