What is marbling?
Marbling is an ancient immersion decoration technique.
In this technique, drops of paint are deposited on a watery surface from which they expand in a sort of random dance, creating ever-changing patterns. The colors are finally absorbed by what is delicately placed on the surface, in a magical process that makes each creation unique!
In the Extravacat workshop, we’ll experiment with marbling on paper and, finally, we’ll complete the works with screen printing on some marbled pieces.
At the end of the day, you’ll take home a fantastic new experience, in addition to the works we created together.
The workshop is suitable for everyone; no drawing skills or special knowledge are required.
How the course will be structured:
We’ll begin with a brief introduction to the technique and materials for marbling. Afterwards, everyone will experiment by creating different marbled sheets, choosing color combinations and trying different color textures.
We’ll take a short lunch break to let the works dry, and after lunch, we’ll proceed with the screen printing.
We’ll briefly explain how this printing technique works and then proceed to print some posters with unique graphics designed for the day!
Who is Extravacat
Extravacat is an accessories and clothing brand founded in 2021 by Marija Milic, an artist and artisan from Trieste who places the ancient technique of marbling at the heart of her artistic work.
Every Extravacat creation is handmade, from the fabric decoration to the final assembly.
Through her psychedelic creations, she pays homage to all the “weirds” of the world, celebrating the diversity and boldness of those who are not afraid to think outside the box.
