The wonderful people at Mootown asked us to hand screen print some banners which they would sew onto their market stalls. There will be a grand unveiling of these banners tomorrow at North Cross Road and a Royal Bermondsey Spa markets where they will be cutting some delicious cheesecake at 12 noon.
Mootown was established in 2007 with the aim of bringing excellent Welsh farm cheese to the capital. They regularly visit their suppliers to select and buy cheese which they ripen in the magnificent Victorian brick railway viaduct near Bermondsey.
Their Welsh Cheese is delivered direct to them from small farms in west and mid Wales. The pasture is rich and herby creating extremely tasty milk from which the cheeses are lovingly crafted by specialist cheese makers.
The cheeses vary in flavour with each batch and by season but highlights include Teifi – a gouda style cheese made by John Savage & Paula van Werkhoven at Glynhynod Farm near Llandysul, Gorwydd Caerphilly is made by the Trethowans at their farm near the village of Llanddewi Brefi. Carwyn Adams is fifth generation award winning cheesemaking with a superb range including Perl Las, a Roquefort style blue, Perl Wen a mould ripened brie style cheese and the supreme champion of the 2010 British cheese awards – Golden Cenarth – a soft cheese with an orangey rind and a creamy, rice pudding flavour.
