Paola Horevicz Hurtado to Debut Pitsky Press and Premiere Unreconciled at CODEX

In 2026, printmaker and book artist Paola Horevicz Hurtado will debut Pitsky Press as an independent publisher at the CODEX International Book Art Fair, marking a significant shift in her practice. After years of running a commercial letterpress business, Horevicz Hurtado has pivoted toward creating limited edition artist’s books, with CODEX serving as the first public platform for this new chapter. At the fair, she will premiere Unreconciled, a deeply personal artist’s book that explores the emotional complexity of receiving an ADHD diagnosis later in life.

Horevicz Hurtado is no stranger to CODEX. She has attended the fair for over a decade and has assisted her mentor at the same table at nearly every edition. Exhibiting independently for the first time represents a long held ambition and a meaningful professional milestone.

“I’ve attended CODEX for the past decade, and have assisted my forever-mentor at her table at almost every single one,” she explains. “It is a dream realised to have my own table for the first time, and to be premiering not only my new printmaking venture, Pitsky Press, but also an artist’s book that is personal, cathartic, and relatable.”

Unreconciled is a limited edition artist’s book written, designed, letterpress printed, and hand bound by Horevicz Hurtado under the Pitsky Press imprint. The work examines the internal negotiation that follows a late ADHD diagnosis, as the narrator attempts to reconcile two versions of herself: the person she was before understanding her brain’s wiring, and the person emerging after that realisation.

Visually, the book pairs text with a continuous black line that moves across each page, tracing the emotional shifts, disruptions, and repetitions of thought that accompany the diagnosis. This line is layered over imagery inspired by brain scans from an ADHD research study conducted at the University of Zurich, grounding the work in both personal experience and scientific reference. The book was written and designed in winter 2024, printed in summer 2025, and will be exhibited publicly for the first time at CODEX in February 2026.

While ADHD has become a widely discussed topic online, Horevicz Hurtado approaches it with care and nuance. She acknowledges the tension between increased visibility and the risk of oversimplification, particularly on social media, while emphasising the real impact that access to diagnosis and resources can have.

“ADHD seems to be a trending topic right now, which can cause confusion and over-saturation,” she notes. “At the same time, it is a very real topic as many people, especially women, are finally gaining access to resources and diagnoses that answer questions they’ve been asking all their lives.”

Although Unreconciled is rooted in Horevicz Hurtado’s own experience, the work is intended to resonate beyond a single diagnosis. The themes of identity, self understanding, and adaptation speak to anyone navigating a significant personal discovery or life shift.

“This book is personal for me, but it is also timely and deeply relatable for anyone going through a similar experience—whether that be with ADHD or any other big life change or discovery.”

Horevicz Hurtado’s broader practice is grounded in the tactile language of printmaking, particularly letterpress and relief processes. She is drawn to the balance between artistic expression and technical problem solving, where process and outcome are inseparable. Her books and limited editions invite slow engagement, close looking, and physical interaction, reflecting an introverted mode of communication shaped by rhythm, repetition, and variation.

Born in Brazil and now living in the United States, Horevicz Hurtado often frames printmaking as a metaphor for belonging and translation. Cultural identity, psychology, and lived experience intersect in her work, with ADHD influencing not only content but also structure and pacing. Through Pitsky Press, she brings these concerns into a focused publishing practice that values intimacy, material presence, and emotional honesty.

The debut of Unreconciled at CODEX marks both a professional turning point and a deeply personal statement. With Pitsky Press, Horevicz Hurtado steps forward as an independent publisher, using the artist’s book as a space for reflection, recognition, and connection.
