Maths and design may seem like two different things, but not at BB-Bureau, a Nantes-based design studio run by graphic artist, type designer, and lecturer Benoît Bodhuin who is obsessed with geometrical patterns. Having studied mathematics at university, Bodhuin decided to enrol in design school, gained experience at a bunch of design agencies before he started off as an independent designer.
Typefaces created by BB-Bureau are obviously full of character and playfulness. These typefaces, developed from fuzzy drawings, handwritten letters and abstract shapes, are results from thorough research and experimentation. Recent work includes a set of silkscreened posters designed using his typefaces: Zigzag, Mineral and Marianne. And last month, his work was also featured in Ficciones Typografika, an exhibition dedicated to typographic exploration curated by Erik Brandt.
