Robert Howsare’s interdisciplinary work highlights the glitches occurring in systems. Informed by his background in psychology and design studios, Howsare’s work utilises interference patterns to investigate the errors occurring in both the printmaking process and human perception. The inability of our eyes to process certain visual stimuli causes a discrepancy between actual and perceived vision, which can create the illusion of movement within a static image.

His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally; selected venues include the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Austrian Cultural Forum of New York, Pittsburgh Centre for the Arts, Urban Institute of Contemporary Art and the International Print Centre of New York. Howsare’s work has been recognised by WIRED Magazine, Abitare International Design Magazine, HOW, and other publications.

Most recently, his work has appeared in The Art of Tinkering, Meggs’ History of Graphic Design and on Adult Swim.
He received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and graduated with an MFA in printmaking from Ohio University.
