MEYAI is a Stockholm-based digital artist and illustrator. With a bachelor degree in Industrial Design, for the past three years they have worked as a 3D-artist, graphic and motion designer at a design studio in Stockholm.
“What I love about making prints is that I have full freedom to play around with loud colours and shapes. I enjoy being able to set colour and structure to inspiring environments; to peel off layers of the real world and make it into colourful shapes instead. Mostly when I start making my artwork, I have no idea where it’s going to end. I usually start with a colour palette I like and a couple of photographs for inspiration, then I get sucked into illustrator for hours.”
MEYAI is hugely inspired by the work of Malika Favre; “I saw her for the first time at the OFFF Festival in Barcelona a couple of years ago… I think that lecture was the first spark for me to start doing my own creations“. Their prints depict everything from architectural forms, to portraiture and scenic landscapes, yet remain consistent in the use of flat, block colour and a playful use of shapes.
