Træsh Forlag, aka Træsh Pubilcations, is a comic book publisher based in Trondheim, Norway. Træsh publications consists of Zarina Saidova and Ingrid Blix Dyrseth; Ingrid works as a freelance illustrator and is studying front-end development, and Zarina works as a full time illustrator at Skogen design agency. They met at Kristiania University College while studying illustration, and instantly became friends. The idea of starting a comic publishers was born two years later while eating a burger on a cold winter evening.
“We wanted to start a publication because we felt the comic culture in Trondheim was lacking. There’s a lot of good creators here and we want to showcase them.”
On the name of their publishing company, Zarina and Ingrid state; “Træsh feels relaxed and not too serious. We wanted to have the Norwegian letter æ in the name, even though trash is an English word. We cherish Norwegian comics and want to give that nod to Norway“.
Træsh Times is the duo’s first publication. It consist of 12 different comics from different illustrators. The theme of the paper magazine is Covid-19 and what people did while they were stuck at home during lockdown: Did they get a new hobby? Did they go insane? Or were they just laying on a couch re-watching The Office for the 9th time?
“This was our first publication, and we chose the newspaper format because it was different, and the formal feels very relaxed” describe the publishers. This format also gives a nod to the old fashioned comics that used to be in the Sunday newspapers in the 1900s. They conclude; “We hope to make a lot more fun, exiting and different publications in the time ahead of us and just have an awesome time“.
