Amélie du Petit Thouars | Apocalypse

posted by POP Members February 25, 2022

Apocalypse is one of the latest screen printed poster releases from French graphic designer and printmaker Amélie du Petit Thouars. Printed in black ink on silver paper, the piece was created using a combination of different technologies; on the computer, remixed through her iPhone, and then retouched again on the computer before it was finally hand screen printed.

Amélie is a graphic designer by trade, so often works for clients for whom she has to adapt her work to their needs. “My personal work is my way to really express myself and experiment as much as possible,” describes the printmaker. She often collects images that inspire her, and with her phone she plays with and remixes them using different apps on her computer before printing them. Amélie states; “I love transcribing digitally created images into analogue printed form and playing with the textures you have with screen printing, linocut or risography”.

Apocalypse was born after Amélie created some doodles on her phone which resulted in a beautiful pattern; “It’s pure serendipity and randomness”. Her work is influenced by her love of artists including Adam Pendleton, Raymond Petitbon, and Christopher Wool, as well as her fascination with digital glitches which she uses to create mesmerising visuals.

Currently, Amélie is working on a series of posters inspired by the Art Deco buildings of her new home town of Reims! Having just moved from Paris, she is hoping to meet other artists and create a printing/book binding studio to share and hold exhibitions.
