Together with Screen Print studio Kurtface Nijmegen, Dutch artist, Christa Stoop, has created 3 colourful works on paper. The prints which form the series, Vertical, are the result of a period of experimentation with making geometric abstract paper collages from magazines. The scale of these works is quite small, bound by the size of magazines.
The prototypes for Christa’s Verticals series began with cutting paper which she combined to make pleasing colour combinations. She tells us; “I always use self-chosen rules. In this case the rules were two black and white lines combined with two different colours, with grey as a base colour”. Every print within the series is different, but builds up the same way according to these rules.
After completing a series of 16 prototypes with thoughtful attention to colour and repetition, Christa printed 3 final pieces. Each screen print consists of 5 colour layers in her signature warm and bright palette, and is available in an edition of 24.
“It is so nice to make these little works that spark joy,” concludes the printmaker.
