Emily Chappell is a freelance illustrator, artist, and silkscreen printer. Originally from Manchester, she graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2006 after studying illustration and design, and has stayed in Scotland ever since.
For the last 13 years Emily has worked designing for a variety of sectors, including poster design for theatre, product illustration, book cover design, and mural design. She also creates silkscreen artworks, t-shirts, and experimental drawing alongside this practice. Themes of food, plants, and well-being are common in her work.
Emily has a large silkscreen printing bed set up in her studio, and often goes between her local allotment and studio to get real-world inspiration and immediately bring back that source imagery for experimentation and development in the studio.
In 2017 Emily’s illustrated book about allotment architecture, A Hut of One’s Own, was published. She is also ‘M’ at Mutant Mule – comic book style merch, prints, and stickers.
