Judy Andrews describes herself as an “optimist, artist, designer, business owner, and proud mum of two, with an energetic attitude and a thoughtful imagination”. After years in the commercial design world and in-between running her own agency, Judy now finds herself endlessly curious and forever inspired.
With an aim to inspire and empower through creativity, Judy creates optimistic, vibrant, bold and colourful art, apparel and accessories designed to make a statement. She also founded and runs the award-winning brand agency TicketyBoo Creative.
Judy has been creating, designing, and making her whole life, but it has only been in the last few years that she has found the confidence to create her own art to sell. When she was on maternity leave with her son, Judy discovered a love for hand drawn typography. She describes; “It gave me the freedom to experiment and express myself. I would sit with my notepad while my son was sleeping and sketch. And the positivity focus came when I found it hard going back to work full time after only 5 months.” To help herself through this Judy would write herself post it notes of positivity and then share on social media. Originally created to cheer herself up, Judy found that they were also having a positive effect on others too. This led her to her first mini prints of positivity.
“As a creative person I never switch off and am always having ideas and constantly inspired by the everyday,” says Judy. She describes herself as a “big fan” of journaling which helps her process her thoughts and ideas, and is a great way of gathering initial sketches. She also has a keen appetite for learning which in recent years has been fuelled by a foundlove of reading. Judy comments; “It helps grow my mind and expand my ideas”. She continues; “I enjoy most discovering new ways of thinking and understanding other people’s perspectives”. Judy likes to capture and share what she has learned through journaling and blogging.
When it comes to print, Judy tells us; “There’s something special about print, the imperfections and uniqueness of each print, and the tactile nature of the paper. I love the strong vibrant colours you can achieve and get so excited when I finally see my designs in print”. Her favourite method is Risograph, and Judy hopes to one day own her own machine.
Alongside her print and art practice, Judy also runs her own brand agency, TicketyBoo Creative, which she founded back in 2018. “After going back to work full time after the birth of my son, I found the commute and long working hours tough,” says the artist. Wanting more flexibility Judy was inspired to set up a remote flexible agency. This allowed her to continue doing what she loved and work with some incredible talented people. With TicketyBoo Creative Judy is able to work with big retailers and small businesses, helping businesses find their focus, make their brand distinctive, and build a connection with customers.
