Marie Mohanna is a French illustrator and author of graphic novels based in Paris. She studied at ECV (Visual Communication School) in Paris and attended classes in graphic design, typography, illustration and academic drawing. These classes enabled Marie to develop her own unique style of drawing which is distinguished by imagery of desolate environments that are mysterious, fantastical and symbolic.
At the end of her studies, Marie decided to travel for a year. She went all over the world but was most amazed by Japan. Marie tells us: “I always had a thing for Japanese print. But when I went to Japan, I discovered a different way of printing and I started to discover risograph and fell in love with it.” Hugely influenced by her travels in Japan, Marie now uses riso as often as she can. Colours play a large part in her work, with the bright and vivid tones of her pieces highlighted through the medium of risography.
Marie’s work is characterised by landscapes and mythological scenes, and she is constantly inspired by architecture and science fiction. She has just completed a series about a trip to Japan and is currently working on another about her own city, Paris.
