London based illustrator and screen printer Sam Baldwin graduated from Saint Martins in 2012, and has since specialised in hand drawn pen and ink drawings which combine curious fantasy characters with humorous narratives, turning reality on its head. Having worked for a vast collection of clients which include Bob Gill, Hattie Stewart, Random House Publishers, Facebook, Anthony Burrill, Peter Strain and Kate Moross, Sam says his passion for illustration stems from the fact that the possibilities of what you can make are endless, there are no restrictions on what you can draw regardless of whether it is real or not.
He always starts by illustrating in pen and ink and it is only once he has all the outlines complete that he turns to photoshop to place everything together before screen printing. His resulting abstract prints show his appreciation for handmade processes and the importance of technical skill as well as a warped and manipulated reality.
