Having studied BA (Hons) and an MA in Fine Art at the University of Wolverhampton, Satinder Parhar has continued his artistic practice ever since. This practice revolves around the relationship between the space, form, and the object. Satinder’s work examines the structures which form these interstices, the interstitial spaces that are formed within, and the intimate relationship between the two. What is this connection and why is it so harmonious?
Satinder’s inspirations stem from one’s interaction with an open space, whether it’s natural or man made. He uses printmaking as the medium to portray these ideas and inspirations. The process of removing excess ink from the plate, as well as dying the paper, manually creates depth within his work. “This is important as the drypoint prints are a re-representation of an existing space. The relationship between the interstice and the interstitial space is highlighted with the use of black and white in my work. The two colours oppose each other yet simultaneously work together,” says the printmaker.
This year, he aims to learn and experiment with other printmaking techniques such as lithography and aquatint to further develop his work. Satinder states; “Such techniques will allow me to generate richer tones and depths in my work, which in turn will enhance the viewers experience.”
