Sophie Cunningham

Channeling a fascination for the digital world of pop culture, social media and all of the motifs involved, Sophie Cunningham produces the most charming of satirical illustrations, hand drawn and painted in gouache, contrasting vibrant hues, candy pastels, clean vector like shapes and playful imagery.

Embedding influence from the 80’s and 90’s, video games, cinematography and cartoons, Cunningham states her inspiration as being by the multiple forms the image takes and the part it plays in our interactions.

In order to achieve self satisfaction and result in her unique aesthetic, Cunningham completes all process in analogue, using graph paper to achieve the clean vector lines, occasionally placing her illustrations on a digitally coloured background to achieve that beautifully finished feel.

Sophie Cunningham graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2013 with a BA Hons in Illustration. Cunningham is currently situated in Fife, Scotland and much to our pleasure, has returned to illustrating this year after putting her creative life on hold since graduation.
