Walker Carney is a designer and printmaker who’s inspiration draws from a myriad of influences including his formative years in the Virgin Islands. After completing his studies at the Savanah College of Art and Design, Walker pursued a career in Graphic Design, as well as venturing into the the world of DJ’ing as a result of his lifelong love of electronic music and album art.
His practice, which focuses on screen printing, aims to explore materials and hues not commonly available in standard digital printing methods, including innovative papers and vibrant colours. His self-taught journey was inspired by a close friend and colleague who began independently printing her own illustrations. Seeing the possibilities through her process, Walker pieced his studio together over several years and practised through small runs of greeting cards for friends and family. His early designs focused on type and basic layering techniques, but after some experiments with Risograph, he quickly incorporated a fluorescent aesthetic into his palette. In his recent work, he’s integrated geometric exploration and colour-play.
Though his current portfolio is primarily serigraph, Walker intends to expand into foil-stamping, letterpress, and more Riso printing. He has incorporated textiles and is venturing into pattern-printing and product design. Aside from his primary practice, he has launched his Prfenstein brand as a secondary platform for his self-directed projects. His plan is simple, to “create a special kind of perfect through prints, goods and vibes”.
