Kodak who have been making cameras for over a century have released their new-age Super 8 Camera, which they dub as the “next generation film camera.” I’m sure you all remember playing with an original Super 8 camera that you found on a bootsale or that you hired out from the tech department of University so that you could get that much sought after aesthetic and feel that the analogue recording quality gives. Now you can do it with enhanced version of the same technology with the new Kodak Super 8 Camera that connects your analogue data directly to your digital devices; is this the ‘analogue renaissance?’
The Kodak Super 8 Camera has been endorsed by some of the industry’s top movie directors, including Christopher Nolan (Interstellar), JJ Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Steve McQueen alongside many more respected cinematographers, directors and producers.
Kodak are targeting the creative audience with this new product. “It’s more than a camera. Kodak is developing new platforms for creativity. Merging analogue magic with digital convenience.”
A collaborative effort between Kodak, leading filmmakers, the best mechanical fabricators on earth and industrial designer Yves Behar and his team at FuseProject has resulted in this seemingly awesome piece of kit. We’d certainly love to have a play!
One huge step forward from the original is the integrated audio microphone which plugs into the front of the Super 8 Camera. Another is the digital viewfinder, to help you capture the perfect scene. Then all of the lovely data that you’ve captured can be connected digitally to all of your other devices in order to create, share and archive.
It just looks stunning and it can only be a good thing that the next generation of filmmakers get this incredible bit of kit to use.
